Abstract

Land desertification is a very serious environmental-economic problem in the North
China. To carry out remote sensing monitoring is an effective measure for understanding
the expanded processes, status and trends of desertification.Based on the formation of the
interpretation indicator system and technological process,we advanced a method of remote
sensing monitoring on desertification development and practised it in the Mu Us sandy
Land. The results indicate that to depend on this method we can bring to light the distribu-
tion of desertified land in time and space and their patterns of evaluation, which will pro-
vide scientific basis for successfully combating desertification.
