Abstract

This paper describes a project that the earth can be observed in the staring mode with the high-resolution solid-state imaging device on the geostationary orbit, and according to the current solid-state imaging devices, gives an imager design employing 5 000-by-5 000 elements CCD and 1 000-by-1 000 elements infrared FPA,similar to the five-channel Visible-Infrared Imager on GOES-8 and GOES-9 in performance. The analysis results indicate that it is a very attractive project in the meteorological and ocean remote sensing to observe the earth in the staring mode on the geostationary orbit.
