Abstract

In this paper, the national/international developments, as well as the theories and methods of soil moisture monitoring by remote sensing are simply s ummarized. A review on the study keys and development directions in the field of drought monitoring by remote sensing is carried out. The results showed that th e methods on soil moisture monitoring by remote sensing, which are mainly stood for by improved thermal inertia and CWSI, are becoming mature and they can be us ed in daily operation.

Key words:  Soil moisture      Remote sensing      Thermal inertia      CWSI
