Component technology pushed object-oriented technology and distributed calculation efficiently,
and then advanced software development. ActiveX control has been the standard of component technology
of microsoft. This article began with the component technology, then introduce a GIS ActiveX control
Mapobjects 1.2, and analyses its mechanism. Based on the application environment information system of
Dunhuang and surrounding area, the authors analyse some detailed questions and present the solutions. In
this system, we tried to display overlaid different coverage by displaying coverages we chose. To display
vector shape and label text in several levels, we added some control field in the attribute table that was
bounded to vector shape file. We decorate Chinese symbols displaying by relating map scale to Chinese font
size. In addition, the authors presented some appreciation dealing with the error and packing and
distributing of application.
