Rainfall distribution over global and regional scales plays an important role in severe weather monitoring, and in the research and application for climate change and global water cycle within the ocean land atmosphere system.Satellite borne microwave(MW) remote sensing has been proved as a powerful tool for global rainfall estimation. Therefore space borne remote sensing of rainfall estimation is one of the main project of Chinese National High Tech R & D Program for Space Technology. Also,it is one of the important problems in many international project of atmospheric scientific experiment. In this paper,we intend to review the models, retrieval algorithms, key problems in space borne remote sensing of rainfall distribution. Finally some problems which should be investigated more deeply are briefly discussed.

Synthetic aperture radar on satellite can produce fine resolution remote sensing image. We can find ship and ship wake easily in some SAR ocean images. In the paper we discuss the problem about monitoring ship and ship wake by using satellite SAR.First, we describe the principle of the SAR imaging of ship and ship wake, and the images that are produced in different condition.Later,we discuss the problem of detecting ship and ship wake, and the problem of estimating some parameters such as ship size, course of the voyage, velocity and so on.Having discussed these problems, we think it’s possible that ship on the sea can be monitored by using satellite SAR,and this work is very important.

Remote sensing has been widely used in coastal water quality monitoring, several models have been established. High spatial and spectral resolution sensors, such as the Landsat TM, usually were used in estimating the suspended sediment concentrations in the coastal regions. But few people have used SPOT image in estimating suspended sediment concentrations. When studying the suspended sediment concentration in Danshui River in Taiwan, SPOT image was used because of its higher spatial resolution ...

The paper discusses the multi layer information extracting method for landcover from remotely sensed imagery. According to the features of different targets, multi layers of thematic information are acquired by using corresponding ways. Then the landcover classification map is completed by overlaying them. During the process, we carried out field investigation and analyzed the target features, and positioned the sample areas by GPS, so as to obtain the ancillary information and improve the classi...

The three kinds of methods, such as training sites Supervised Classification (SC), Digital Numbers (DNs) statistics and Normalized Difference Snow Index ( NDSI) have been used to map snow cover distribution and then to calculate snow cover area. In this study, the remote sensing data sets from Landsat TM, Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer(MODIS) and NOAA/AVHRR were selected to utilize for mapping snow cover since these images are most current remote sensing data to be

Remote sensing information is the synthetical reflection of the earth surface with definite scale space.Since the earth system is characterized by complexity and opening, the information from the earth surface also should hold the characteristics of multi dimension and infiniteness.Additionally, in the process of information transfer by remote sensing imaging system, the information is somehow attenuated or amplified, and there exists complicated correlativities among the units of remote sensing...

With the rapid development of remote sensing technology, its applications to geoscience are gradually widespread. The research in remote sensing image linear form is an aspect of what are generally paid attention to. This paper has analyzed the statistical features of remote sensing image texture. And it has set up a Markov Random Field (MRF) Model about textual features by which is able to describe the random feature of remote sensing image texture reasonably. It makes preliminary explores

The spatial and spectral decorrelation are important steps to compress losslessly multispectral remote sensing image. At present, there are many methods to realize spatial and spectral decorrelation. But few of them is really effective. In this paper, we try to propose such an effective method in which the reflection properties of different objects in different bands were firstly analyzed using a wide-known classification scheme which called K-mean method. Then, for purpose of spectral decorrela...
